Lock / Unlock
Locks the screen, or wakes and unlocks it.
device.lock
The piece
Lock the screen, or wake + unlock it. Works on Android & iOS via Appium. Unlock only clears a swipe / no-passcode lock — a PIN/pattern/passcode-secured device stays locked; the step reports whether it actually applied.
Reach for it when
- Checking what a notification looks like on a locked screen.
- Proving the app re-authenticates after the phone has been locked.

Every setting this block has. A field marked only when appears once you have chosen the mode above it — those are alternatives to each other, not extra things to fill in.

Lock / UnlockSettings ActionLockKnow what unlock can and cannot do
It clears a swipe lock or no lock at all. A PIN, pattern or passcode stays locked, and the step says it did not apply.
swipe lock only
What comes out
- Whether the device ended up locked or unlocked — or that it could not be confirmed.
Watch out
- Locking is two things on Android, and only the second one takes: measured on a farm Pixel, the lock command alone left the state reading “not locked”, and it was forcing the display off afterwards that made it real. That is what the step does — but it reports what it can confirm rather than assuming, so a device that answers differently says so instead of lying.
