Presses Back, Home, or Recents — the three keys that are the phone, not the app.

The piece

Press a navigation key. Android has all three. On iOS: Home works, Back is emulated with the system edge-swipe (works in standard apps), and Recents isn't available — the step reports what actually happened per device.

Reach for it when

  • Backing out of a screen without hunting for the app's own back arrow.
  • Returning to the home screen between two parts of a test.

Back — Android hardware key / iOS left-edge swipe. Home — both. Recents (app switcher) — Android only; skipped on iOS.

  2. Expect iOS to be different

Home works on both. Back on iOS is the system left-edge swipe, which standard apps honour. Recents does not exist on iOS and is reported as skipped.

What comes out
  • What actually happened, per device — pressed, emulated, or skipped.
Watch out
  • Back on an app's first screen leaves the app. Assert where you are if the next step assumes you are still in it.
