Flow & logic

Wait

Stops for a fixed length of time. Nothing else.

The piece

Pause for a fixed time before the next step. Reach for Wait For Element first when you're waiting for something specific — a fixed delay is either too short (and flaky) or longer than it needed to be, and you pay for the device either way.

Reach for it when

  • An animation or a toast you have to sit through and cannot name an element for.
  • Giving a backend a moment between two calls you control.

In the bag

Every setting this block has. A field marked only when appears once you have chosen the mode above it — those are alternatives to each other, not extra things to fill in.

  • Duration
    starts at 1s

How long to pause. This is billed device time like any other step.

Build it
  1. Set the time

It is billed device time like every other step — the phone is held, doing nothing.

    1s

the phone is held for the whole of it

  2. Prefer waiting for something real

A fixed delay is either too short — and flaky on a slow morning — or longer than it needed to be, and you pay either way. Wait for Element waits exactly as long as it has to.

    the same pause, two ways
    • Wait 3salways 3s — too long, or not enough
    • Wait for Elementas long as it takes, no longer
What comes out
  • Nothing. It only delays what comes next.
Watch out
  • A flaky test fixed by raising a Wait is not fixed, it is postponed. Find the element it was actually waiting for.
