The piece

E-mail the run's result — sent by Remopipe, so there is no mail server to configure.

Reach for it when

  • Reaching someone who is in none of the chat tools.
  • A nightly summary that should sit in an inbox rather than scroll past in a channel.

Every setting this block has. A field marked only when appears once you have chosen the mode above it — those are alternatives to each other, not extra things to fill in.

  • ToRequired
    starts at —

    One or more addresses, comma-separated.

  • SubjectRequired
    starts at Run failed — {{ $Device Manual Trigger.json.device }}
  • MessageRequired
starts at A step failed during the run. The screenshot is attached.

    Supports {{ }} references to earlier steps, e.g. {{ $Device Info.json.model }} or {{ $Find in Text.json.first }}.

  • Attach the last screenshot
    starts at on

The screen as it was at the last step — usually the whole explanation.

  • Attach files made by this run
    starts at off

Anything a Convert to File step produced — a CSV of the UI dump, a log capture.

  • Link to the workflow
    starts at on

Add a link to open this workflow in the editor.

  • Only if a step has failed
    starts at off

Skip the message when every step before this one passed. This is what a nightly regression wants: silence is the good outcome.

Build it
  1. Address it

Several addresses, comma-separated. The subject takes {{ }} references too — put the device in it, so the inbox is scannable.

    ToRequired
    qa@acme.com, lead@acme.com
    SubjectRequired
    Run failed — {{ … .device }}
  2. Say what happened, and attach the evidence

Both switches are available here: the screenshot, and whatever a Convert to File step produced.

    Run failed — Pixel 8

A step failed during an automated run. Cart showed 2 items, expected 3.

  3. Decide when it should speak

Turn on “Only if a step has failed” for anything unattended. A nightly run that messages you every morning is a run you stop reading; silence should be the good outcome.

What comes out
  • Nothing the next step needs.
Watch out
  • The link is to the workflow, not to the run: while the run is still executing its record does not exist yet, so a link to it would 404 for exactly as long as anyone would want to click it.
  • This is separate from the built-in run-failure alert, which emails the account owner once per workflow. A graph that notifies itself here does not get that one as well.
